New York Yankee Tickets Almost Free

New York Yankee fans may be among the most knowledgeable when it comes to baseball itself, but how about ticket buying? Did you know it's possible to go to a Yankee game and practically pay nothing for a ticket. Thanks to season ticket holders not being able to attend all the games and a website, a day at the ballpark doesn't have to set you back a small fortune.
My Yahoo article on the subject has much more details. To check it out click on the link below.

Jon Bon Jovi Will Let You Eat for Free

New Jersey rocker Jon Bon Jovi is planning on opening a payment-optional restaurant in Red Bank. The hope is the facility can not only help those in need, but also, become a fundraising source. The concept is not new, and has worked in other areas of the country.
I have written an entire article for Yahoo on the proposed eatery, so click on the link below for all the details.

Trucks Needed to Crash into NJ Parkway Bridges

New Jersey state officials are reportedly looking into allowing commercial truck traffic to travel on the Garden State Parkway north of Exit 105. Like any other proposal in NJ, the motive here is generating more income for the state. A truck traveling the full length of the Parkway would pay as much as $37 in tolls.
These same officials cite a need to look into the wear trucks would have on the pavement and whether the bridges are tall enough to accomodate them. Really? They need to look into whether the bridges are high enough? That's like saying we're considering opening up the railroad tracks to passenger cars, to clear congestion on the roads. We just need to see how compatible cars would be on the tracks.
Obviously these "officials" don't spend alot of time on the Parkway. Many of the Parkway bridges in North Jersey are arched. While trucks may be able to pass through the center of these arches, they definitely cannot be in the far right or far left lane. What do these "officials" propose, trucks will only be allowed in the center lane?
Even if the trucks manage to make it throught the arches, what about the low, LOW, bridge near Newark. There is no way commercial trucks can clear that span. What do they propose, dumping all the trucks off in Newark? Like they don't have enough traffic problems.
I suggest these "officials" take a ride on the Garden State Parkway, maybe in the front window of a double-decker bus, and then, if they come back, give us their new suggestions or proposals.
Maybe it's just their goal to have a Garden State Parkway littered with wrecked trucks. My brother wouldn't mind, but he owns a towing service. Me, I have a small child, and the Parkway is dangerous enough for us. Leave the trucks to the roads that can handle them, not the Garden State Parkway.

Bear on NJ Turnpike Held Me Up

I travel the NJ Turnpike at least twice a week, if not more. As you can imagine, I have seen my share of traffic jams and delays. The traffic will slow for any number of reasons. Cars broken down along the side of the road, bathroom breaks for little ones, but even I had to be amazed by what caused my delay this morning. A BEAR!
Yes, a bear. A Black Bear decided to take up residence in a tree right at Exit 8 on the Turnpike. I have to admit my son and I didn't even know what we were passing at the time, all we saw were police cars and people staring at a small group of trees alongside the roadway. Who would think a bear?
Of course I really shouldn't be surprised. I was almost hit earlier this week by a nun, who went through a stop sign. Guess I was being sent a message, and all this time I was looking for lightning to strike me down.

Neo-Nazis Coming to New Jersey

A Neo-Nazi group is planning a rally this Saturday April 16th at the foot of the World War II Memorial near the Statehouse in Trenton. The group has obtained a permit  for between 75 to 150 attendees to gather between the hours of 1PM and 5PM. They expect about 100 members to attend, some from as far away as Detroit. The groupis holding the rally to bring attention to high taxes, illegal immigration, and crime.
The Jewish Defense Organization has said they will have members on hand to disrupt the rally. They have also told any businesses in the area, such as hotels or restaurants, should the accomodate the Neo-Nazis their establishment will be subject to boycotts.
The NJ State Police have been aware of the rally plans for months and will be on hand along with officers from other forms of law enforcement.
While I don't think any group that can only muster up 100 members, especially when they are coming from other states, is a serious threat, hate in any form is wrong. I just hope the Jewish Defense Organization doesn't stoop to their levels. We shouldn't hate these people, we should feel sorry for how misinformed they are. Immigrants and other races are not responsible for high taxes, unemployment, and crime, however, their own hatred may be.

Win At Scratch Off Lottery Tickets

I know scvratch off lottery tickets are pretty popular here in Jersey, seems any time I stop anywhere they are sold there is someone nearby scratching away. What really amazes me is how little these people do to increase their odds of winning. They put more stock in crossing their fingers than doing a little research.
I like to increase my odds in anything I do, so I looked into these instant lottery tickets a little deeper.
So while I can't give you the winning numbers for the Mega Millions, Powerball, or even the Pick 3 or 4, I can tell you which scratch off tickets you should buy and maybe more importantly which ones you shouldn't.
Check out Scratch off Lottery Secret Revealed and good luck!

Atlantic City Serial Killer Looks To New York For Victims

The continuing discovery of more and more bodies on a secluded Long Island beach have raised questions about a possible connection to a serial killer in Atlantic City years earlier. No one was ever prosecuted for the Jersey killings.
All the victims were known prostitutes, with the latest ones all girls who advertised on Craigslist.
Check out the details at New York Serial Killer May Have Started In New Jersey

Goldfish Are a Lot of Work, Who Knew?

I am a fish lover, not the kind you eat, the ones you buy at Petsmart or Petco and put in a beautiful tank in your house. Fact is I've been to Petsmart once this week already, yet I have only been to Red Lobster once in my whole life.
I recently had a friend of mine ask me about getting a goldfish for his child. You see I have three tanks in my home, two of which have goldfish, so he came to me for advice.
As i began to reel off all the things he would need and what he would have to do he stopped me.
"We are talking about a goldfish aren't we?"
He like most people think you just drive to your local Petco, buy a small bowl, a fish, and some food and you're done.
Nothing could be farther from the truth, so I put much of what I was telling him into a Yahoo article.
Check out Goldfish As Pets, Not As Easy As It Looks and let me know what you think.
While not good for goldfish, the tank pictured is perfect for betta(fighting fish) that are much simpler and hardier. I recommend this before even attempting a goldfish.

Verizon and Comcast Stealing From Customers

As I occassionally do, I was going over the household expenses to see if there were any which we could actually reduce. My Verizon and Comcast bills made me yearn for a simpler time. A time when the only phone was the one in your home, and television was free. Are these two expenses our parents never had responsible for most of our households being two-income?
I took a closer look at this in Verizon and Comcast Stole My Wallet check it out!

Jersey Shore Cast Overdose

After agreeing to new deals the entire cast of MTV's Jersey Shore has left to start filming the new season in Italy. Reportedly each cast member will receive at least $100,000 an episode up from the $10,000 they received last year.
If that isn't enough, MTV has also ordered additional episodes of two pilots featuring Jersey Shore cast members. The first follows Pauly D as he dj's in various clubs. The other show will feature Snooki and J Wow as they search for a place to live together.
MTV executives say they aren't worried about the public overdosing on the Jersey Shore. Last season the show was the highest rated cable reality show in history. You really can't blame the cast, either, for riding this gravy train for as long as possible. In fact, Snooki has openly commented on making a career of reality television.
Maybe Rutgers should reconsider paying Snooki for speaking engagements and look to hire her full time as a professor. Her career choice seems to result in more money than any Rutgers grad could hope to earn maybe ever in their lifetime.
I can see it now. Snooki teaching a course on careers in television. Ronnie and Sammi teaching about relationships, and the "Situation" showing students how to live like a teenager, even when you are well into your forties. How long before Rutgers opens a campus in Seaside Heights? The Jersey Shore campus led by President Vinnie.

Want to be a Professional Baseball Player

If you have dreams of becoming a professional baseball player or just want to see how you measure up, the Camden Riversharks are giving you your chance. The Atlantic League team that plays it's home games in a beautiful stadium on the Camden Waterfront beneath the Ben Franklin Bridge is holding open tryouts on April 9th at 9AM.
There is a $50 registration fee which you need to pay at 8AM the day of the tryouts. Registration forms are available at the team's website http://www.riversharks.com/.
You must bring your own wooden bat, gloves, footwear, and catching gear if you're a catcher. All participants will be given a Camden Riversharks T-shirt and a real chance at making the team.
So if you think you have the talent, download the form, show up with $50 and your equipment, and try to live the dream. Good Luck.

Strange NJ Laws You Never Heard Of

New Jersey, like most states, has laws still on the books that in this day and age seem strange if not just stupid. I'm sure at the time there were good reasons for them, although you really have to wonder were they enacted to address real problems or was a lawmaker just really annoyed.
The first law seems particularly strange for New Jersey, the Garden State. It is illegal to sell cabbage in the state on Sundays. What's behind this law, a desire to keep the state free of cabbage's byproducts on the day of rest? Was someone so annoyed by the smell or did someone come from a home where cabbage was on the menu every day and just needed a break?
The next law certainly comes from a time when it was unheard of to question the authority of a police officer. It is illegal to frown at a police officer. Can you imagine being arrested and your cellmate asks you what your in for? "I frowned at a cop man".
We all love ice cream, and apparently at one time in NJ it was thought to have medicinal benefits, at least in Newark. You see in Newark it is illegal to sell ice cream to anyone after 6 PM unless they have a note from their doctor. I can't get into see my doctor when I have the flu, let alone when I want some comfort food.
The next law is one that maybe we should really start enforcing. It is illegal to slurp soup. I have been in a few restaurants when I wish someone would come in and remove a noisy soup slurper at a table nearby. Next time I'm out to dinner I will be sure to keep 911 on speed dial.
The last law I want to mention could be bad news for notorious pickle lover, Snooki from MTV'S Jersey Shore, should she ever decide to come to Trenton NJ. In the capital of NJ it is illegal to throw a bad pickle into the street. I can't even imagine how littered the streets of Trenton must have been with bad pickles before this law came about.
So if you don't want big trouble in NJ make sure you don't start your Sunday trying to buy cabbage, then slurp your soup at lunch, throw your bad pickle into the street in Trenton, frowning as you pass a police officer, while trying to buy ice cream in Newark after 6PM without a doctor's note. Everything else is fine.

Bruce Springsteen Plays Asbury Park's Wonder Bar

Bruce Springsteen and the Wonder Bar have both been part of the Asbury Park, NJ music scene for a long time. Amazingly when Springsteen took the stage Saturday night, it was the first time he had ever actually played there. The club was the sight of his first meeting with long time E Street member Clarence Clemons more than 40 years ago.
Springsteen, who has been spending alot of time in Asbury Park lately with appearances at both the Upstage and Asbury Lanes, was in town to support the West Side R&B scene. He, Southside Johnny, and members of the West Side scene participated in a discussion about the impact of the scene on the music that came out of Asbury Park at the Atonement Luthern Church, earlier in the day.
Later that night Springsteen, Southside Johnny, Vini Lopez, and members of the West Side scene all shared the stage at the Wonder Bar. They played together on some popular songs from the 60's including "Love on a two way street" and "What's your name".
As I mentioned in an earlier post Springsteen has been spending alot of time in Asbury Park lately. He has been checking out places and even music that meant alot to him in his youth. He also visited Asbury Lane catching some tunes by New Brunswick, NJ based band Bad Karma.
Let's hope this is a sign of the Boss wanting to make some new music and even possibly a tour. Springsteen has been good for Asbury Park for a long time, could Asbury now be good for Bruce?

Drunk and Sloppy Gets You $32,000 From Rutgers

When students at Rutgers pay their tuition there is a student activities fee added in. Those fees are used for a number of things, including bringing speakers to the college to address the students. These speakers are usually experts in their fields and highly respected among their peers.
The latest speaker to appear, Snooki. Yes, that Snooki from MTV's Jersey Shore. While she is an expert at being a sloppy drunk, I highly doubt this is the kind of speaker the students' parents envisioned when they sent their kids off to such a respected school as Rutgers.
What knowledge could she share with the students? How to get really drunk, have sex with random strangers, and get arrested for being a public nuisance on the beach. Great, like college students don't get in enough trouble already.
So this summer, if you're down the Jersey Shore and get bumped by a drunken college kid wearing a Rutgers shirt, you can thank Snooki, the latest expert brought to our state's university to further their education.
Oh and by the way, they paid her $32,000.

New Sexy Uniforms Get 16 Fired At Resorts Casino

Resorts Casino, as mentioned here in an earlier post, has decided to renovate not only their casino, but the overall look and feel of the experience. Hoping to capitalize on the popularity of the HBO series Boardwalk Empire, the casino is going for a Roaring 20's feel.
As part of the change a new uniform was introduced for the cocktail waitresses to wear. The new uniforms are backless, cut up high in the thigh, and worn with fish net stockings and high heels. Sounds pretty risque for the 20's , but I guess we have to take their word for it.
Sixteen cocktail waitresses at Resorts have now claimed they have been fired because of how they looked in the new uniforms. This has happened in the past when other casinos have changed uniforms.
What I will never understand is why these casinos put themselves in the line of fire by firing these women. I'm sure cocktail waitresses make most of their money on tips. If the casino really wanted to get rid of them couldn't they just schedule them in low volume areas or give them bad shifts. Why create the bad publicity by firing them, unless they feel any publicity is good publicity.
As far as the women are concerned, if their earnings are tied directly to their appearance why don't they make more of an effort to be in shape? I'm not being sexist it's just reality. Would you pay good money to be trained by a personal trainer who was out of shape? Would you hire a driver who couldn't see well?
I feel for these women I really do. I hope Resorts can find other positions for them, or I hope they can get themselves back in better shape and earn more tips than they ever have.
